Now here is the solution: the MiniGallery.

The MiniGallery module allows you to quickly add images to a page, including resizing large images and automatic thumbnail creation.

No external scripts needed (but if you want to, it is still possible) using the built-in fancybox script.

Just install the module just like any other module, add it to (or create) a page and start uploading. Thats it.
